Polymer Clay Color Recipes | Patchwork Petals Palette

These color recipes bring a fresh twist to the classic fall palette! Deep green and mustard yellow meet pastel blue, pink, and creamy ivory for a combo that’s totally unexpected for autumn but somehow just works. I used this palette for my Patchwork Petals cane tutorial which you can find here.

A Quick Note on Mixing

I create my polymer clay color recipes using parts. Use whatever cutter you prefer to measure your parts, just be sure to use the same cutter and clay thickness for each color in the recipe.

Personally, I swear by squares. They’re easy to cut into smaller parts, and when you’re slicing corner to corner, it’s accurate enough even for those of us who can’t eyeball measurements to save our lives. Trust me, I’m hopeless at eyeballing measurements and things can go awry pretty quickly.

Tools & Materials

To recreate this dreamy palette, you’ll need:

  • Fimo Professional polymer clay in these colors:
    • True Magenta
    • True Yellow
    • True Blue
    • Turquoise
    • White
    • Champagne
  • Pasta machine dedicated to polymer clay use — or you can improvise with an acrylic roller and playing cards if you’re pasta machineless
  • Shape cutter of your choice (but hey, squares are the VIPs of this process)
  • Polymer clay blade or craft knife

Step 1: Condition your clay

Give your clay a warm-up! It doesn’t need to be perfectly conditioned yet—mixing will handle most of the work. Just make sure it’s soft enough to cut shapes easily.

Step 2: Roll it out

Sheet all your clay to the same thickness. Whether you’re team pasta machine or team acrylic roller, consistency is key here.

Step 3: Cut your parts

Use your cutter to cut out the required parts for each recipe. If you need smaller portions, grab your blade or knife and start dividing!

Step 4: Mix it up

Blend your colors together by running them through the pasta machine or squishing them by hand.

Step 5: Get creating!

Go make something really cool with your new color palette!

Note: I’ve done my best to match these colors while staring at my screen, but keep in mind, colors may vary slightly depending on your screen settings (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) The colors you mix should be super close, but don’t stress if there’s a tiny difference—it’s all part of the creative journey!
