polymer clay cane spice jars

Hello! Welcome to My New Blog

Hello there! I’m Sandra and I’m so glad you’re here. I live in Kamloops, British Columbia where I live with my husband and our dog, Wrangler. I’m a polymer clay artist and have been working with this incredibly versatile medium since 2020 when my daughter piqued my interest with her polymer clay creations. I bought myself some to play with and it’s been love ever since.

Polymer clay canes caught my interest very early on in my polymer clay journey and that remains a favourite technique of mine. I’m still fascinated by the magic when you make that first cross wise cut into a log of clay and reveal the design within. Mokume gane and mica shift are two other techniques I often use in my work.

hello, I'm Sandra

As far as my finished pieces go, I started out with making earrings but found more enjoyment making functional decor items. A recent favourite project is constructing boxes out of polymer clay and covering them with decorative canes. I’ve even taught a class online for Polymer Week Society how to do so.

Why start blogging?

I started an Instagram account when I got my first order of polymer clay as a way to document my progress. That personal account has since evolved into a sizeable business account and as I’ve honed my skills one of the things I’ve enjoyed most is sharing my process and connecting with other makers. After considering both YouTube and Patreon as platforms to continue to sharing my polymer clay knowledge I settled on a blog as my vehicle of choice for two reasons. One, I kinda hate being on camera, and two, I find written instructions work better for my own learning style over video—I’m sure I’m not the only one, right? Right? Anyway, I am excited by the possibilities of this new-to-me world of blogging.

What can you expect to find here?

Polymer clay will obviously be the main focus of this blog and I plan to share plenty of how-tos on the techniques that I know enough about to teach but there will be more. I also plan to share:

  • beginner basics
  • free cane tutorials
  • free project tutorials
  • experimentation with new tools and materials
  • polymer clay book reviews
  • scrap clay projects—if you make a lot of canes you know that a lot of scrap clay is produced and I’m always thrilled to find a new way to put a dent in my scrap clay bin
  • market prep, set up, and experiences
  • my own progress with new-to-me techniques—I would love to learn to sculpt with polymer clay—we could learn together!

There’s sure to be a fair share of trial and error as I navigate this new territory so please feel free to reach out with any blogging advice you may have. I aim to drop a new post twice weekly  and I truly hope you will find plenty of inspiration for your own adventures in polymer clay.
